On the way to Portland for the Rose City Challenge we stopped at the town of Cascade Locks. We went into the park along the Columbia River and found this amazing scene. A narrow waterway made of concrete with this rickety platforms. The informational billboard next to these man-made structure claimed that the American Indians used these platforms to fish using nets.
Can you imagine climbing down those narrow ladders to that small platform above rushing water and snagging fish, probably large fish like steelhead or salmon, using the nets you can see in the picture?
